The National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA) in The Gambia was established to enhance and ensure the quality of education across the country. It coordinates the accreditation and quality assurance processes for educational institutions and their programs, aiming to uphold standards and improve the overall quality of education. NAQAA also works to ensure that qualifications awarded in The Gambia are recognized both nationally and internationally, facilitating comparability and fostering educational excellence.
By developing a robust framework for accreditation and quality assurance, NAQAA contributes significantly to the social and economic development of The Gambia, ensuring that the workforce is well-prepared and that educational qualifications meet global standards.

Dr. Momodou Lamin Tarro is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA), effective July 1, 2024. His leadership marks a new chapter for NAQAA, following the legacy of the late Dr. Gibril Jaw, with a commitment to maintaining excellence and continuous improvement in The Gambia's tertiary and higher education sector.
With decades of experience in university management and administration, Dr. Tarro is poised to lead NAQAA with a vision of enhancing the quality of education and upholding national standards.
From his roots in Bakau to his academic pursuits abroad, Dr. Tarro brings a wealth of knowledge, making him the ideal candidate to guide NAQAA into the future of quality assurance in higher education.
Having served as the Registrar at the University of The Gambia, Dr. Tarro has successfully managed multiple key university roles, making significant contributions to policy development and university governance.
Dr. Tarro holds multiple degrees, including a PhD in Public Administration, two Master's degrees, and a Bachelor's in Political Science. His academic journey, combined with extensive administrative experience, reinforces his expertise in education policy, leadership, and public sector management.
